TRASH #LitterKills ~ Zero Waste Journey

Just a little disclaimer Keep Britain Tidy have nothing to do with this post. :) (I like the logo :) )

I have mentioned on here and on my other Social media accounts. I like to do little Litter Picks when I go out for a walk. I personally have always done this. I Just pick up a few bits  whenever I'm out and either take it home to be recycled or put it in the closest bin (if whatever I have picked up can't be recycled).

I'm not saying you should do it ~ I'm just sharing what I do, especially since I decided to share more of my Live Green lifestyle on here. This is a big part of it. Trash does involve all of us.

My Earth Hour Blog Post

Since I started my Zero waste Journey, I've been doing a lot more research on Trash and Recycling (pretty much..WASTE). Because I now know what happens to our Waste. I've been doing more Litter picks. Because I don't want this to happen :(

Not only is OUR waste Toxic for the environment but Wildlife thinks it's Food!!. Animals are being found dead all over the world with OUR waste in their system .

(Picture from Dougie Poynter Instagram ) 45-pound mass of tangled plastic bags found in the stomach of a dead camel in the desert of Dubai

Apart from Killing Wildlife..I don't think people realise how much it Costs to clean up this litter

And it takes FOREVER to degrade

When you throw things away. Where is away? There is no such place as away!

I've started to document what we mainly pick up.
The main culprits are..Surprise, Surprise...Single use items / PLASTIC.

Elastic Bands ~ #AngryFACE!! Every time we go out, we pick up handfuls of elastic bands (Thank you Royal Mail!!!) This was from just one little walk around my block :(

Royal Mail have given me an address of my local sorting office to send the elastic bands back to them.
If you want to do the same, contact Royal mail (in the complaints part on their website) with the first part of your postcode, if you don't want to give all your details. And they will let you know where to send them back.

Plastic bags ~ Which I have noticed a decrease :) Thank you plastic bag Charge!

Cans and Plastic Bottles ~ Which very surprisingly MOST we find still have quite a lot of liquid still in them! No its not pee. If it is these people really need to see a doctor!!. This is one of the reasons I agree with the sugar tax!! If you are going to purchase this stuff at least drink it!!

Cigarette packets

Cigarette Butts - Not surprised. But I don't think people realise that these horrible things are not only really bad for you but they are really hazardous to the environment and waterways!!

Coffee Cups

Chocolate bar wrappers

Crisp packets

Takeaway polystyrene and cardboard boxes

And Loaves (yep LOAVES) of bread..still in the plastic!

Sadly all of this is Toxic for our environment and very dangerous for the wildlife, but not surprising that none of this is Great for us humans either! it literally is all JUNK!.

I am very surprised at what people think are Rubbish Bins!

SERIOUSLY!!! Not a rubbish bin, people...Not a rubbish BIN :(

I know some of the rubbish we find might be debris (for lack of a better word, rubbish that has fallen out of a bin), you can't always help that. That happens. But we can all do our bit by disposing our rubbish correctly and reduce our Single use consumption and Reduce our waste.

Knowing what I know from the research I've been doing, I pick up what I can.
Because I Clean for The Environment, Nature, The Waterways and The Wildlife.

If you would like to do your own research here are some documentaries and Ted Talks I recommend:

Take 3 for the Sea

Captain Charles Moore

There are so many more videos on YouTube to do with Waste. Whether you want to research on Recycling, Food waste, Plastic or just general Waste. You will find it on there.

Do you do Litter Picks? Do you recommend any Documentaries?

Till next time
